Therapeutic breathing blends somatic connection with principles of mindfulness and nonjudgmental presence. It can be a powerful tool for grounding within your body and naturally calibrating your energy. This can be particularly effective practice for those recovering from, or living with, injury, trauma, or illness.
My breathwork practice is rooted in the foundations of mindfulness-based therapeutic techniques in addition to yogic pranayama (conscious, energetic breath control). Breathing is done either sitting up or on the back, and you connect with your breath in an intentional way. Over time, breathing practices have the capacity to increase your sense of presence in your own body, soften your grip on deeper emotional and mental patterns, or to energize yourself when your mood is low.
